The Translation of the Akuryou Series

Ghost Hunt is a novel that was originally called the "Akuryou series". It was released in 1989-1994. The manga is based on the Akuryou series and the anime is in turn based on the manga. As a sequel to the Akuryou series, Ono Fuyumi wrote two additional books that are together called Akumu no Sumu ie under a different label White Hearts. This carried "Ghost Hunt" as a series title for the first time. This is the story that is currently being adapted into a manga. The manga and anime were also titled "Ghost Hunt" and this is how the series is more popularly known as abroad.

The Akuryou series is/was (partially) translated by various people on baka-tsuki.org. To my knowledge, some of it was done by using Chinese translations. Akumu no sumu ie is translated directly from Japanese to English by me.

I just find your blog and I'm dying from happiness .. I mean ghost hunt is like my most favorite anime EVER and the novel too .. I was dreaming of a complete translation of it .. you don't know what does it mean to me that I find you translating this .. I wish I could express my emotion in other way that words but I can't offer anything T^T .. anyway I want to make understand something fully .. your gonna translate Akumu no sumu ie first right ?? and after that your gonna go and translate the Akuryou series from the start and with the rewritten version from the beginning and not the version that Baka-tsuki do ... sorry for the long comment it just I'm supper happy and I want to make sure since I feel like I'm dreaming - and I still think I am -

OH MY GOD .. it's like a dream come true .. thank you thank you THANK YOU .. I'll support you till the end :) .. ( funny after I send the first comment I find out that I've make a lot of mistake sorry .. I don't know what was I writing that time from the excitement :) ... and one more question should I finish the Akuryou series first then move out to Akumu no sumu ie or is it fine to start with Akumu no sumu ie ??

As long as you read the manga until volume 12 (because spoilers), I think it's fine to start with Akumu!

My recommended order would be:

- Anime ('06-'07: I assume you've seen it already. The gateway to Ghost Hunt.
- Manga (1998 - 2010): Either the entire manga or starting from where the anime left off.

After this it's up to you.

- The old Akuryou series: It's not required because the manga and anime are fairly faithful, but there are still some minor differences. I also think it's good to get a feel for Ono's (early) writing. It might be interesting to compare with the new edition later on. Unfortunately the majority was double translated (JA>CN>EN) and therefore may contain inaccuracies. It's also incomplete.

- Akumu no sumu ie (novel > manga): I think the manga skims a little too much on Hirota's personality in the beginning, so it's better to start with the novel. Read the first volume of the novel, then go read the ongoing manga adaption. After this you can switch up depending on the speed of my translation or the manga scanlation team.

As for the new Akuryou edition, that could take a while lol.
